A Tribute to Womanhood

Welcome to "I Am Woman"...a tribute to all those women who had the courage and perseverance to stand up and fight for their rights. Thanks to those who came before us we enjoy a freedom unknown to women not too long ago. But, sadly, in many parts of the world, women continue to be repressed. In fact, even in this country there are women living today under the threat of violence...completely controlled by a violent spouse. Some may make it; others won't. Hopefully, one day ALL women will be free. May that day come soon.

Today's Quote

Young women today often have very little appreciation for the
real battles that took place to get women where they are
today in this country. I don't know how much history
young women today know about those battles.

Today's Quote

Don't shut yourself up in a bandbox because you are a woman,
but understand what is going on, educate yourself to take your
part in the world's work, for it all affects you and yours.

Hope

Hope abides; therefore I abide.
Countless frustrations have not cowed me.
I am still alive, vibrant with life.
The black cloud will disappear,
The morning sun will appear once again
In all its supernal glory.

Today's Quote

It certainly must have been a relief for women of the country to realize
that one could be a woman and a lady and yet be thoroughly political.

Today's Quote

A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create,
nurture, and transform. A woman knows that nothing can come
to fruition without light. Let us call upon woman's voice and
woman's heart to guide us in this age of planetary transformation.

Hope Comes Again

Hope comes again, to this heart long a stranger,
        Once more she sings me her flattering strain;
But hush, gentle syren--for, ah, there's less danger
In still suffering on, than in hoping again.

Long, long, in sorrow, too deep for repining,
Gloomy, but tranquil, this bosom hath lain:
And joy coming now, like a sudden light shining
O'er eyelids long darkened, would bring me but pain.

    Fly then, ye visions, that Hope would shed o'er me;
Lost to the future, my sole chance of rest
Now lies not in dreaming of bliss that's before me.
But, ah--in forgetting how once I was blest.

Quote of the Day

There is a great line of women stretching out behind you
into the past, and you have to seek them out and
find them in yourself and be conscious of them.

Great Spirit, I Am Morher (Cross posted from Our Blessed Mother)

Great Spirit, I am Mother.
I was made by You so that the image of Your love
Could be brought into existence.

May I always carry with me
The sacredness of this honor.

Creator, I am Daughter.
I am the learner of the Traditions.

May I carry them forward
So that the Elders and Ancestors
Will be remembered for all time.

Maker-Of-All-Things, I am Sister.

Through me, may my brothers be shown
The manner in which I am to be respected.

May I join with my sisters in strength and power as a Healing Shield
So that they will no longer bear the stain of abuse.

Niskam, I am Committed Partner:
One who shares her spirit,
But is wise to remember never to give it away,
Lest it become lost,
And the two become less than one.

I am Woman.
Hear me.
Welal'in.
Ta'ho!

Quote of the Day

The thing women must do to rise to power is to redefine their femininity.
Once, power was considered a masculine attribute. In fact, power has no sex
