A Tribute to Womanhood

Welcome to "I Am Woman"...a tribute to all those women who had the courage and perseverance to stand up and fight for their rights. Thanks to those who came before us we enjoy a freedom unknown to women not too long ago. But, sadly, in many parts of the world, women continue to be repressed. In fact, even in this country there are women living today under the threat of violence...completely controlled by a violent spouse. Some may make it; others won't. Hopefully, one day ALL women will be free. May that day come soon.

4-Year-Old Indian Rape Victim Dies

Hospital officials in India say a four-year-old who was raped earlier this month has died.

Officials in Nagpur say the child died Monday night from cardiac arrest.

Authorities say the child's parents found her unconscious a day after the rape in the town of Ghansour, in Madhya Pradesh state.

Indian media reports say she was taken to a local hospital, but was later airlifted to the hospital in Nagpur.

At least one person has been arrested in connection with the case.

The incident is the latest in a string of rapes that have sparked outrage in India over the treatment of women and girls, with protests first erupting in December over the savage gang rape of a 23-year-old student in the capital, New Delhi.

The kidnap and brutal rape this month of a five-year-old girl in the the capital has spurred another round of demonstrations over the high levels of sexual violence and police handling of the case.

  1. I am just frozen in anger when I read of brutality towards others. Poor little soul and her family in grief. It is just deplorable. Oma Linda

  2. Why do the men in India fear the women so much? This is a sad commentary on life - the taking of a life so young - by what right is this tolerated? Linda's expression "frozen with anger" is a new one to me, but it describes how I feel after reading this.
